What does “hypoallergenic” mean?
The word comes from the Greek: “hypo” means “low” and “allergenic” means “reaction-causing”. So hypoallergenic jewelry is made to trigger an allergic reaction only very rarely. That matters most with jewelry, because it stays in direct contact with your skin for hours – and sweat or moisture can make reactions even more likely.
Hypoallergenic or nickel-free – what’s the difference?
The most common cause of skin reactions to jewelry is nickel. A nickel allergy is the most widespread contact allergy in the world, affecting around 10 to 20% of people in Central Europe – and women more often than men. “Nickel-free” means a piece releases so little nickel that it stays below the legal limit. “Hypoallergenic” is the broader term: the overall risk of a reaction is very low. Our material: 316L stainless steel & 18K PVD gold plating
JEVAANI jewelry is made from high-grade 316L stainless steel – often called “surgical steel” because it’s also used in medical applications. Let’s be honest: 316L isn’t 100% nickel-free, because nickel is part of the alloy. What matters, though, is that the nickel is locked firmly into the material and barely released onto the skin – well below the legal limit. Our jewelry is nickel-release-free to EU standards: the nickel in the alloy is firmly bound and barely released. That is the decisive point for skin tolerance.
Does the gold plating tarnish over time?
No. Our 18K gold plating is applied using the PVD process. It is especially hard-wearing, does not tarnish and will not flake off under normal wear.
What does the 2-year plating guarantee cover?
We guarantee for two years that the plating holds up under normal wear. If it tarnishes or wears off early, simply get in touch with us.
